When I first met Governor Ted Kulongoski and First Lady Mary Oberst their vision was to have a portrait painting that reflected his leadership and years of public service in the legislative, judicial and executive branches of government.
We discussed a number of ideas and worked through several compositional studies before choosing the the image shown. It was a process of discovery, hard work and fun when it finally came together.
This process is at the heart of every good portrait painting and is a collaboration between the client and artist that I find most enjoyable.
